A New Vehicle Is Coming: Introducing The Toyota Crown SUV
During the 2023 LA Auto Show, Toyota revealed the Crown SUV and it was rocking an HEV AWD badge which means it has a hybrid powertrain. It’s expected to be the same as the Crown sedan which is either a 2.5L four-cylinder or a 2.4L turbo. There is currently only one Crown sold in the States right now but there are a lot more sold in Japan. Hopefully, shortly, more information will be released about the all-new Toyota Crown SUV and what its capabilities will be. Meanwhile, let’s see what the Crown sedan has to offer and what features could carry over to the SUV model.
2023 Toyota Crown
The Green Car of the Year award goes to Toyota’s new Crown sedan for being environmentally friendly. The Crown’s win comes at a crucial time for the Japanese automaker because it has been under some heat for not adapting plans to move towards being an all-electric product. The CEO, Akio Toyoda, has big plans to mix hybrids, plug-ins, EVs, and hydrogen fuel-cell cars. The Toyota Crown beat out a few top competitors, including the Toyota bZ4X battery-electric vehicle, the Chevrolet Bolt EUV, Nissan Ariya, and the Volkswagen ID.4. The Crown sedan replaces the old Avalon sedan, and the new Crown hopes to bring customers back to buying sedans.
Toyota is excited to have the 2023 Crown a part of its lineup just as much as the Crown PHEV. All the trim levels come with an all-wheel drive. The Crown with the base hybrid powertrain has up to 42 mpg and 41 mpg highway. The Platinum version has a stronger Hybrid Max powertrain with 29 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. For the interior design of the car, there are eight-way power-adjustable front heated seats and dual-zone automatic climate control. The Limited and Platinum trims have a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, and ventilated front seats. There is a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen that comes with updated software, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Safety features include standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, standard lane-departure with lane-keeping assist, and standard adaptive cruise control with lane centering. The starting price of the 2023 Toyota Crown is $41,045 (plus destination fee). If a customer orders the 2023 Toyota Crown or the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version, they won’t be disappointed either way.
Toyota Crown Sport
Toyota showcased the Crown sedan in the United States last year to replace the Avalon model, but it’s only one of four that will be released using this title. The second model coming is the Crown Sport, which Toyota just launched in Japan. More body styles will include a smaller sedan and an SUV which should arrive in Japan by next year. The Crown Sport will be a mix between a hatch and a crossover and will come with 21-inch wheels.
As for the interior, there is a 12.3-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. The 2024 models are available in Japan with two powertrain options. The choices include a hybrid powertrain that comes with a 2.5-liter inline-four or a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
The Waiting Continues
